19 Filipino artists present their works at an exhibition celebrating artistic expression, cultural identity, and international friendship
VIENNA, Austria — October 28, 2026. Filipino Visual Artists in Austria (FVAA) brought Filipino creativity and cultural heritage to the forefront with a vibrant art exhibition at the historic Wasserturm in Vienna’s 10th District. The event, which attracted a large gathering of Filipino and international guests, celebrated the artistic talents of the Filipino community while fostering cultural exchange between the Philippines and Austria.
The exhibition, which opened on October 28 and ran until October 31, 2026, featured the magnificent works of 19 Filipino painters, offering visitors an opportunity to appreciate the diversity, imagination, and artistic expression of Filipino visual artists living in Austria.
FVAA President Welcomes Guests and Artists
In his opening remarks, FVAA President Gerry de Guzman warmly welcomed the guests and expressed his gratitude to his fellow officers and members for their dedication and support in making the exhibition possible. He gave special recognition to the 19 participating painters whose artworks transformed the Wasserturm into a showcase of Filipino talent and creativity.
De Guzman’s message highlighted the collective effort behind the exhibition and the importance of providing Filipino artists with opportunities to share their work with a wider audience.
FVAA Vice President Imelda Perez Papai also acknowledged the presence of the many art supporters who attended the opening, recognizing their encouragement and appreciation for the artistic contributions of the Filipino community.

Art as a Bridge Between the Philippines and Austria
Delivering a message of inspiration, Hector Pascua, editor of Austrian Press, encouraged FVAA to continue painting, collaborating, and creating opportunities for future generations of Filipino artists in Vienna.
He emphasized that art serves as a powerful bridge between cultures, allowing artists to communicate their identity, heritage, and experiences beyond language and geographical boundaries.
Through their paintings, Pascua noted, Filipino artists bring the Philippines closer to Austria, sharing the richness of Philippine culture and identity with Austrian audiences and the wider international community. He encouraged FVAA to remain a vibrant platform where established and emerging artists can grow, support one another, and contribute to the cultural life of their adopted home.
ICDO Encourages Greater Cultural Collaboration
Josipa Palac, president of the International Cultural Diversity Organization (ICDO) in Vienna, also delivered an inspirational message, recognizing the importance of cultural diversity and artistic expression in bringing communities together.
Palac encouraged FVAA to strengthen its collaboration with ICDO, emphasizing the opportunities that partnerships between cultural organizations can create for promoting Philippine culture through art.
Such cooperation can open doors for Filipino artists to participate in broader cultural initiatives, reach new audiences, and build meaningful connections with artists and communities from different backgrounds.
Music Adds a Special Touch to the Celebration
Adding a musical dimension to the occasion, Ms. Nancy Agbon entertained the guests with her rendition of songs inspired by art. Her performance complemented the exhibition’s creative atmosphere and provided a memorable cultural highlight for those attending the opening.
The combination of visual art, music, and inspiring messages underscored the event’s central theme: creativity as a means of expressing identity and building connections among people of different cultures.
Philippine Embassy Recognizes Filipino Artists
In his inspirational message, First Secretary and Consul Theodore Bauzon thanked FVAA for its continuing efforts to promote and uplift the creativity of Filipino artists in Austria.
His message recognized the value of initiatives that provide Filipino artists with platforms to exhibit their talents, gain recognition, and contribute to the visibility of Philippine culture abroad.
The participation of representatives from cultural organizations, the diplomatic community, and the wider public reflected the growing importance of artistic initiatives in strengthening Filipino-Austrian cultural relations.
A Celebration of Filipino Identity and Artistic Excellence
Beyond displaying paintings, the FVAA exhibition served as a celebration of the Filipino community’s contribution to Austria’s multicultural landscape. Each participating artist brought a personal perspective and creative voice to the exhibition, demonstrating how art can preserve cultural roots while embracing new influences and experiences.
For Filipino artists living abroad, exhibitions such as this offer more than an opportunity to display their work. They create spaces for community solidarity, intercultural dialogue, and inspiration for younger generations who may wish to pursue their own artistic journeys.
The Wasserturm exhibition once again highlighted FVAA’s role in bringing artists together and sharing the richness of Filipino creativity with the Austrian public.
With the participation of 19 painters and the support of community leaders, cultural advocates, diplomatic representatives, and art enthusiasts, the October 28 gathering became a meaningful celebration of art, heritage, and international friendship.
